How learning is Exceptional at Gainsborough State School


At Gainsborough State School we have reframed learning by connecting learners to fun, authentic, real life learning opportunities. As such our student and teacher roles have also been reimagined to ensure learning experiences and knowledge acquisition is relevant and enjoyable. Our students not only have an understanding of their own voice and agency of their learning but also how to connect with real world experiences.  

Gainsborough State School expects that all students will thrive as learners with equitable access to education. This is achieved at our school via a climate and culture that encompasses positive relationships, interacting learning environment, where students are deeply engaged and motivated whilst being a part of strong learning partnerships. Learning at Gainsborough State School is facilitated by collaborative inquiry, an ongoing set of processes for continuous improvement. 

A new way of Learning to Learn


At Gainsborough State School students are active, engaged learners who deeply value lifelong learning. Our students take responsibility for their learning and are explicitly taught and understand the process of learning. Our students are taught to develop the skills of metacognition, giving and receiving feedback and enacting student agency. With support, our students develop the skills to have a clear awareness and understanding of their own thought processes, define their own learning goals and success criteria, monitor their own learning, critically examine their work and incorporate feedback. 

Deep Learning Six Global Competencies

Gainsborough State School has designed a way of learning that optimises Excellence, Innovation and Insight. The GSS Learning Framework connects our community of learners to six global competencies: Character, Citizenship, Creativity, Communication, Critical Thinking and Collaboration. The learning expectations at Gainsborough State School have been categorised into the six global competencies and will be reflected throughout our school.
