Gainsborough State School is part of the Gold Coast City Council Active School Travel Program.  We started our journey this year, in 2023.

We believe that Active School Travel

  • promotes road safety and independence among students and families
  • encourages an active, healthy lifestyle
  • reduces congestion on Gawthern Road during peak times
  • fosters positive relationships between students, younger siblings and adults
  • develops an awareness of our impact on the environment

    Gainsborough families can participate by

  • our initiative of Flex Your Feet Friday will operate from week 1 of term 2
  • leave the car at home or park a block away and walk to school
  • ride your bike or scooter to school making sure that students wear helmets
  • families can organise carpooling

Gold Coast City Council support us by

  • Active School Travel Officer who meets and communicates regularly with school staff
  • financial support to release staff per term to organise Active School Travel initiatives and programs
  • supporting and funding our AST breakfast event every term
  • coordinating between departments such as Main Roads and Council
  • creating connections between organisations such as Translink and the Ashmore Bicycle Safety Centre to provide free programs for our Year 4 and 5 students
